Disney has announced that it will invest $1.5 billion in Epic Games, known for the Fortnite video game, with the idea being to bring more Disney characters to video games. It is Disney’s largest investment in a video game.
Both companies will work to launch new games and integrate more Disney characters into existing ones. The two companies say they will also create a “new universe of entertainment and gaming”
The young audience that plays Epic Games games watches very little TV, but plays a lot on smartphones, computers or consoles, so Disney will benefit if more young people see its characters in Epic Games games.
Disney has also partnered with Epic Games, licensing the use of several famous characters from the company’s films. For example, characters from “Star Wars” are already present in Fortnite games.
Disney says the new universe will give players the ability to “play, watch, buy and interact with content, characters and stories from Disney, Pixar, Marvel, Star Wars and Avatar.
