Tesla ordered to pay $1.5 million for hazardous waste
February 3, 2024
A US court ordered Elon Musk’s Tesla Inc. pay $1.5 million (1.3 million euros) to settle a lawsuit that alleged the company disposed of hazardous waste without following proper regulations.
The investigation into Tesla’s violation of environmental laws was initiated by the San Francisco district attorney’s office in 2018.
It soon turned into a combined civil environmental case by 25 district attorneys from across California.
Prosecutors alleged that Tesla violated laws by improperly disposing of used lead-acid batteries, antifreeze, paint and electronic waste at its auto services and energy centers across the U.S. state.
