An alleged hacker gained access to her account on December 11, posting several offensive messages against the first lady and her husband, President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva, as well as a series of misogynistic comments.

“I don’t know yet whether to sue them in the U.S. or Brazil, but I will,” Rosangela da Silva said of X, the former Twitter platform that Elon Musk bought in October 2022 and renamed in July of this year. year.

She stated this during a live video recording together with her husband.

Rosangela da Silva also called on Brazilian authorities to regulate social media platforms, saying they should be held accountable for the actions of their users.

Her husband agreed, but said such rules should be considered worldwide and expressed concern about the complexity of the problem.

“Understanding how to deal with this without introducing censorship is a challenge,” the Brazilian president said.

“I know that the European Union has already adopted some rules. We will also have to watch very closely what the United States and China are doing,” he added.

His comments came after the EU on Monday opened its first investigation against “X” over suspicions that the social media platform failed to comply with transparency and anti-disinformation obligations under the EU bloc’s Digital Services Act (DSA).
