Russian group PJSC Gazprom reported that its natural gas supplies to China reached a new all-time high amid rising demand, Bloomberg reported, citing Agerpres.
Supply volumes requested by Chinese National Petroleum Corp. along the “Power of Siberia-1” gas pipeline, on November 23 once again exceeded the contractual obligations of “Gazprom”, according to the press release of the Russian producer, published at the end of last week.
“Gazprom” provided all requested volumes and set a new record for daily gas supplies to China,” the Russian group said.
Last month, Gazprom and CNPC signed an addendum to the contract for the supply of gas through Power of Siberia-1, which provides for additional gas supplies through 2023, without specifying other details.
Russia plans to export 30 billion cubic meters of gas to China next year and possibly increase supplies to 38 billion cubic meters per year. Separate deliveries, which will take place via the future route from the Far East, will also amount to 10 billion cubic meters per year.
In addition, Gazprom is negotiating with China to supply up to 50 billion cubic meters of gas through the future Power of Siberia-2 gas pipeline, but the official contract has not yet been signed.
Gazprom says its pipeline shipments of natural gas to China are approaching historic supplies to Western Europe, which have collapsed over the past year as European countries began to diversify their energy imports following Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.
In 2020, the Russian giant sold about 120 billion cubic meters of gas to Western Europe.
