Double opportunity for lovers of rare books and collectibles next week: the brand’s event, which complements the “Librarian’s Collection”, presents at public auction many rare books, old maps, manuscripts and vintage photographs organized by the House of Artmark Auctions in a formula of two auction segments – by on Tuesdays and Thursdays. The total number of both parts is more than 400 lots. In this way, the public has access to a large selection, from A to Z, of major works of Romanian literature, signed and dedicated, such as the “Jderi Brothers” or the novel “Ion” or “La Medleni”, as well as a diverse series of rare lots or museum meaning: chrysov issued in 1632 by Matei Basarab, ruler of Romania – calligraphic work, Emil Cioran’s manuscript for Amurgul Gandurilor, the only engraving by Vlad Tepes known in Romania – and one of the 3 known in the world, letters sent by Nicolae Ceausescu or Napoleon Bonaparte, as well as Geo Bogza’s vaccination certificate.

One of the surprise lots that the public has access to in the first part of the auction, scheduled for Tuesday evening at the Cesianu-Rakovice Palace at 7:00 p.m., is a letter sent by Nicolae Ceausescu to the former Minister of National Defense, Emil Bodnarash, on the occasion of his anniversary in 1969 , with a holographic signature. This lot also includes two more letters signed by Sasha Pane and Sella Delavrancha, with a starting price of just €100. On the same evening, the public will have the opportunity to participate in the bidding for another exceptional lot: Chrysovul, issued to Matei Basarab, the ruler of Wallachia, on November 26, 1632. This work has a ring seal, next to the voivode’s name, in black ink. , and the text is written in Romanian and Slavic languages ​​using the Cyrillic alphabet, and two other charters of equal importance, also issued by the rulers of Wallachia, namely Radu Michnea in 1623 and Antoni Wode of Popesti in 1669, are added. .

The auction continues with the second part on Thursday from 12:00, showing another 200 collectible lots, this time online (ie online only) and with very affordable starting prices, around €100-€150 is a lot for most. Among the auction’s most eccentric lots is a letter sent by Napoleon Bonaparte to Joseph Fouche, his minister of the interior and head of his secret police, and it refers to the arrest of an opponent. The work with the emperor’s holographic signature was written during the “100 Days of Reign”, March 27, 1815. The bidding price starts at 500 euros.

Another auction lot that collectors can bid on is the famous novel Last Night of Love, First Night of War, signed by Camille Petrescu, Bucharest, 1931, with a holographic dedication by the author. current price 300 euros The same category also includes the princeps edition of the novel “Ion” by Liviu Rebreanu, Bucharest, 1920, accompanied by the author’s business card. On Rebreanu’s business card, as vice-president of the Society of Romanian Writers, there is a dated and signed holographic note about the writer Camil Baltazar.

The auction also features collectible manuscripts, such as the manuscripts signed by Fanus Nyagu for the Book of Friends volume and the manuscripts by Ionel Teodoreanu for Ulița copilăriei, published in 1923.

The auction also includes a very rare and extremely interesting portrait of the Moldavian ruler Gheorghe Stefan, engraved by Johann Alexander Bonner using the face of Mihai Vityazul. This choice was, in fact, a clever decision made by the engraver to illustrate the face of the ruler George Stefan, whose figure was not known to many people at the time, and for this reason it was chosen to use an existing portrait. The copper plate was printed in Vienna around 1699.

From €150, collectors can add to their collection signed or dedicated business cards such as Bratian, Gogh or Titu Mayorescu (then President of the Council of Ministers – from this position Mayorescu presided over the Bucharest Peace Congress that ended the Second Balkan War).

For just 40 euros, you can also buy a rare copy from a series of 500 copies of Irish writer James Joyce’s book “The Stories of Shem and Sean”, published in Paris in 1929. the copy contains a lithograph by Constantin Brancusi. An original and extremely rare engraving outlines the portrait of James Joyce sculpted by Brancusi, which is in the Museum of Modern Art in Stockholm.
