Six years have been wasted, and the authorities have not been able to solve the problem of archaeological sites in Mission, near the railway line 200, although the original contractual term of the entire project was three years, writes Pro Infrastructure Association. Between Cimmeria and km 614 (near Arad), the railway modernization works are not ready, although they started almost five years ago.

The mission is one of the most important archaeological monuments of the country. Here are the ruins of a Roman fortress and a prosperous settlement 2000 years ago. The mission is located on the banks of the Mures, 10 km from the city of Deva and close to the Mintia TPP and the M200 Brasov – Sibiu – Simeria – Arad – Kurtici railway line.

Between Deva and Arad, the speed of traffic will increase in the new Mers al Trenurilor, Dacia’s fastest train will cover 147 km in 2 hours and 12 minutes. When everything is ready, the course should last less than 90 minutes.

The slowest Regio train, which stops at all stations and also has to wait for IR class trains, will take 4 hours and 19 minutes.

What the Pro Infrastructure Association says

Six years wasted on LEA archeology and resettlement! The authorities have been unable to solve the problem of archaeological monuments in the Mission for years, although the initial contractual term of the entire project was 3 years! All these years were not enough even for the transfer of high-voltage lines that block the opening of the high-speed version of Brenisk.

To give you an idea of the consequences of this impotence: immediately after the new option mentioned earlier, the train will continue to run on the old line, and we have three new museum bridges over Mures!

Approximately 1500 working days: that’s how much has passed since the signing of the contract for the reconstruction of four sections from Simeria to KM614. Time, which turns out not to be enough for the Romanian state, unable to solve the problem of bureaucracy. This is how the concern of the Ministry of Transport for the railway looks like, well hidden behind the cinderella road massif.

All 4 lots had a realistic chance of being completed by the end of 2023, the last year of POIM FY 2014-2020. But even under the most optimistic scenario, only one site (Bârzava-KM614) may be ready this year. This means a loss of money for rail, while funds originally budgeted for rail infrastructure projects have been reallocated to… roads.

We note with sadness how much Romanian politicians care about highways and roads in general compared to railways. This is well known in Europe, but what has been happening in Romania for three decades is absolutely unacceptable. Does anyone in the Government care about the railway?!
