The price of gas for the population is set at 31 bani per kWh, but it has been falling below this ceiling for several months in the market. Although the law states that bills are paid at the lowest price in the market, there are suppliers who do not follow the law. Competent minister Sebastien Bourduilla said that ANRE was monitoring and the fines would be “unprecedented”.
At the press conference, Burduzha said that there are gas suppliers who do not comply with the law and who will receive unprecedented sanctions from ANRE, but did not want to specify what it was about.
“I cannot speak on behalf of NARE, but I asked the management of NARE to be relentless,” the minister said.
According to HotNews.ro, the price of gas has fallen significantly recently and is now below the state-set limit for bills paid by the population, but some suppliers continue to bill at the maximum price.
Despite the fact that the Emergency Decree 27/2022, according to which the final gas prices paid by the population is limited, provides a formula for calculating the price, but also the fact that if the price resulting from this formula will be lower than the maximum , people will pay the lowest price. If the price is higher than the limit, consumers will pay the bill at the limit.
However, over the course of several months, the price of gas in the market has fallen sharply, mainly due to the high temperature outside (low demand) and the fact that the warehouses are full.
The National Energy Regulatory Authority (ANRE) has not yet responded to HotNews.ro’s request to specify the suppliers where violations were found.
A few days ago, Volker Raffel, CEO of E.ON Romania, told HotNews.ro:
“The ceiling is 31 bani per kWh, and now we bill for 25 bani. We count every month and do not see much change during the winter. The gases we store in the summer are more expensive than what’s on the market now, but we do a mix and I’m convinced that if we didn’t have unexpected events, we would stay below the ceiling. We have received control from ANRE on this matter, but we are strictly applying the price formula in the order,” Raffel said.
