The listing of Hidroelectrica (H2O) on the stock exchange boosted the domestic capital market, which is starting the last quarter of this year close to a historical high. How long can this period last?
The Bucharest Stock Exchange opened October in the red. The main BET index, which includes the 20 most liquid companies of the domestic market, rose by 0.22% on the first trading day of the month. The shares of Fondului Proprietatea, Hidroelectrica and OMV Petrom were the most traded on the regulated market.
Investors are having a good year on the Bucharest Stock Exchange, in contrast to the downward trend recorded in the stock markets in the region and in the US, and the optimistic tone is mainly given by the successful listing of Hidroelectrica, as well as the fact that some companies have granted special dividends.
Moreover, the total value of trades at BVB in all types of financial instruments quoted on the capital market in the first eight months of the year amounted to 24.5 billion lei, i.e. 5 billion euros, surpassing the record recorded for the whole of 2022. .
Only twice in the entire history of BVB did the total turnover exceed the mark of 20 billion lei: in 2021 (20 billion lei) and in 2022 (23.2 billion lei). And this happened despite the consequences of the Covid pandemic and the geographical proximity to the war in Ukraine.
In previous years, BVB has tended to grow on the back of the growth of the Romanian economy, driven by private consumption and European money received through the PNRR. Hidroelectrica’s listing is boosting the stock market this year, but uncertainty comes from fiscal measures announced by the government that could have a significant impact on large listed companies.
