
The summer ended in the automotive sector with two unexpected turns: sales of SUVs reached unprecedented figures, and Tesla, the leader of the European car market in the first half of the year, temporarily lost its leadership position in July, returning – and in August. These are only short-term events, but they can signal new trends.
For the first time, crossovers and SUVs reached an important sales milestone: in the first six months of the year, they accounted for more than half of all new car deliveries in Europe.
Their market share increased to 51%, a significant jump from the first half of 2022, when it was 48%. Sales figures compiled by Dataforce show shipments rose 23% compared to the first half of 2022, reaching 3.37 million units.
