
​Mihai Kopaciu, one of the National Bank’s leading economists, was appointed on Wednesday to replace Liviu Voinea as Romania’s representative to the International Monetary Fund as a senior adviser to the IMF’s executive director.
Kopaciu, the author of many scientific works, is currently the deputy director of the Department of Macroeconomic Modeling and Forecasting. He is also known in the academic world for his efforts in recent years to attract Romanian economists working in the world’s central banks to come to work at the NBR. He is the founder of the research seminars BEARS (Bucharest Seminar on Economic Analysis and Research) and the organizer of the Annual Scientific Conference of Romanian Economists Abroad (ERMAS).

Liviu Voinea has completed his maximum 4-year mandate as Romania’s representative to the IMF and is likely to take on other responsibilities in the country. Voynya, a former budget minister and deputy head of the National Bank, is one of the key people who worked on the PSD management program.
