In recent decades, Romanian contemporary art has undergone an impressive evolution, offering compelling investment opportunities. Contemporary Romanian artists have managed to stand out on the local, but also on the world art scene thanks to innovative works and a unique approach to cultural and social issues. Famous contemporary Romanian artists who are valued on the international art scene, as well as emerging artists who intend to rethink classical artistic methods and address current topics in society, sign a collection of approximately 200 works of contemporary art that will be auctioned next week, on Tuesday, September 26, as part of the auction of an eclectic collection of Romanian art, from Pilutce to Bundi.
The choice of modern art as a form of diversification of the investment portfolio also became a solution in the fight against financial devaluation. Contemporary art adds an element unrelated to traditional financial markets. Contemporary art prices are generally not linked to global economic developments, meaning they can provide protection against inflation and have the ability to increase in value over time. This also applies to the works signed by the Romanian artist Constantin Piliuce, a patient and sovereign researcher of his subjects, which over time filled the homes of the professional and administrative elite. Works signed by Konstantin Pilutze, a highly sought-after artist, began to regularly exceed the maximum estimates. This also applies to 9 works from the auction on September 26, the starting prices of which vary from 250 to 300 euros, say the specialists of the auction house A10 by Artmark.
Contemporary art is often limited in quantity and availability. Each piece of art is unique, which adds an element of rarity and exclusivity. This supply constraint can create demand and support prices, especially for works that become famous or emblematic of artistic movements. A copy numbered 19/50, signed by the artist Adrian Heny, is a wise investment. With a starting price of €1,000, the work “Edgar Allan Poe” is up for auction, which is one of 7 works illustrating the “Nevermore” series, dedicated to the poem “The Raven” by Edgar Allan Poe. The series consists of 4 portraits (Edgar Allan Poe – current work, Stéphane Mallarmé, Charles Baudelaire and Fernando Pessoa) and 3 compositions (The Raven, Nevermore and Lenore), all based on collages previously made by Genie.
History has shown that over the years, the value of works of modern art can increase significantly. Contemporary artists who may be starting their careers can become famous and internationally recognized, causing the value of their work to rise. This also applies to the work signed by Felix Aftene, which has seen impressive growth in recent years. The artist from Iasi is presented at the auction on September 26 with the work “Dresor (In Adoration of Nature)”, the starting price of which is 6,000 euros.
Contemporary art also has the ability to capture the spirit of an era, reflecting changes and developments in society, which often makes it popular and valuable among collectors and investors. The artist Mircea Suchiu manages to create a relevant atmosphere in the works “Spiritual View” and “Industrial Poetry”, the starting price of which is 500 euros.
Investing in contemporary art brings with it an additional benefit – aesthetic and cultural enjoyment. Owning works of contemporary art allows the collector to enjoy artistic and aesthetic value while protecting against inflation. A form of investment that offers immediate and long-term satisfaction is the work “Social Behavior” by Arina Bikan, whose starting price is 1,500 euros.
One of the key aspects of investing in contemporary art is identifying promising artists whose share has increased. A number of artists offering a unique approach are represented at the auction on September 26: Mihai Muresan, Florin Ciulake, Lucian Smau, Liviu Mihai, Irlo, Clemi Uweges or Philippe Letinu.
Palatul Cesianu-Racovița exhibits works that can be a smart investment and have the opportunity to diversify a portfolio. The exhibition is open from Monday to Sunday from 10:00 to 20:00. Entrance is free, and the visit ends with a tour offered by the art consultants present.
