Certain European countries have asked for exceptions when it comes to importing Russian gas, but this is a mistake, Prime Minister Marcel Cholaku said in an interview for Austrian publication DerStandard. He believes that it would be right to completely ban Russian gas in EU countries, even if it means that prices will be higher for a while. “We also have to consider what might happen if the Russian Federation wins,” Cholaku said.
Cholak’s statements about Russian gases
- Some countries have asked for exceptions when it comes to Russian gas. I can understand this from an economic point of view, but in my opinion it is a mistake.
- Romania learned its lesson a long time ago and therefore no longer depends on Russian gas. And for a week, even the Republic of Moldova does not depend on Russian gas.
- Therefore, there are always solutions to complex economic problems.
- Therefore, I believe that it will be right if we ban the sale of Russian gas or some Russian products in the EU and in democratic states.
- Yes, a complete ban! Because there is a very big difference between what we are losing, namely a small comfort, compared to what is happening in Ukraine.
- We also have to consider what might happen if the Russian Federation wins. Can we thus create an opportunity for people like Putin to clone themselves in other European states? I think the EU is preparing for full independence from Russian gas, even if gas prices will be higher for a while.
- We cannot compare the fact that prices in the EU have risen or that we can no longer go on vacation as often with what is happening in Ukraine now.
Austrians from OMV come to Bucharest to get changes to the offshore law
Gases are a serious concern for Austria. It will be recalled that OMV CEO Alfred Stern has planned a visit to Bucharest next week to discuss changes to the offshore law with government officials, several sources inform HotNews.ro.
The visit comes in the context of a lawsuit against the Romanian state, demanding provisions of the Offshore Law, which the Austrian company would not like. The Austrians want more freedom in exporting gas from the Black Sea to the West.
