Investments of 654 million lei in the electricity and natural gas network, contributions transferred to state and local budgets of 1.8 billion lei, more than 6,850 employees and thousands of jobs supported directly or indirectly in approximately 2,000 local suppliers, numerous community projects financially supported by approximately 283 million lei. These are some of the key figures from the 2022 E.ON Group Sustainability Report in Romania, recently published.

E.ON is one of the largest taxpayers in Romania to state and local budgets, with a total value of contributions exceeding 1.8 billion lei (about 370 million euros) last year, which is 80% more than the previous year. During the 17 years of its presence in Romania, the sums transferred by E.ON in the form of taxes and fees amount to about 14 billion lei (more than 3 billion euros).

At the same time, E.ON is an important partner for around 2,000 suppliers throughout the supply chain, 95% of which are domestically owned. Last year, the value of purchases by group companies exceeded 1.14 billion lei (over 231 million euros). The amount does not include the cost of electricity and natural gas purchases intended for approximately 3.4 million consumers in Romania. In 2022, all new suppliers were selected taking into account environmental criteria.

One of the largest employers in Romania

As of the end of 2022, E.ON Group has more than 6,850 employees and is one of the first largest employers in Romania. Last year, the company hired more than 500 new employees. E.ON Group continued to focus on the promotion of safe and healthy working conditions, on the development and implementation of employee development programs, thus strengthening its position in the market. The company supports young people through employment opportunities and professional and personal development programs.

Sustainable investments

Investments made by the E.ON group in Romania during 2022, amounting to 654 million lei (about 133 million euros), focused on the expansion and modernization of natural gas and electricity networks to meet the needs of the energy transition, increase the network capacity to connect new renewable capacities energy, as well as to promote digitalization of services. All of this contributes to a greener future by reducing environmental impact as well as improving customer service.

Innovative technologies

An important step in the energy transition is the introduction of hydrogen technologies into the natural gas distribution system. Thus, the 20HyGrid project, launched in 2022, the first for Romania, aims to demonstrate that it is technically possible and safe to add hydrogen, in proportion to 20% by volume, in distribution networks and consumer installations. of existing natural gas in Romania – without the need for their changes.

About 1.4 million euros (approx. 283 million lei) for community projects

This amount is approximately 27% more than in 2021, bringing the total value of the amounts invested in such initiatives in recent years to almost €18 million. The social responsibility campaigns and actions in which the group participated were mainly aimed at increasing the culture of safety among the general public, adults and children, improving energy efficiency and lighting conditions in schools, promoting sustainable actions, and supporting the disadvantaged and victims. war on the borders of the country. Own projects have had 90,000 direct beneficiaries, and employees have dedicated more than 1,000 volunteer hours to the community.
