On Monday, insurance brokers sent an appeal to the government for the attention of Prime Minister Çolak, warning that delaying until next week the draft emergency order to extend the validity of RCA Euroins policies risks blocking systems and a massive increase in the number of cars without RCA on the road .
We remind you that all insurance contracts concluded by the bankrupt insurer “Euroins” automatically terminate September 8, 2023
Drivers were not very interested in reporting RCA policies to Euroins to get new ones, most likely more expensive, so the ASF proposed to extend the deadline by 3 months, and the Ministry of Finance brought up for discussion on August 18 a draft Emergency Resolution on this matter.
Nothing has been heard since then, and next week all those insurance contracts issued by Euroins, not just RCA, will expire.
Why brokers say the Government must make a decision this week
In an appeal sent to the government on Monday and seen by HotNews.ro, UNSICAR, the union representing insurance brokers, says it supports the GEO project, which is under public consultation, but warns that it is “absolutely necessary for the GEO project will be accepted this week.”
- “In the case of postponing the adoption of the National Health Service to the next week’s Government meeting, the public would have a clear decision of the Government only a day before the deadline or even on the day of the deadline.
- Such a situation would create even greater uncertainty and turbulence than if the relevant GEO was not represented in the public space.
- Such a situation threatens to block the operation of systems and a massive increase in the number of uninsured motor vehicles.
- Thus, we reiterate the fact that it is important for the population, business entities and insurance industry operators that the Romanian government takes a clear position on the GEO to establish the extension of the deadlines provided for in Art. 262 par. (32) from Law No. 85/2014 on prevention of insolvency and bankruptcy procedures during the Government meeting on August 28. 2023-01.09.2023.”, it is shown in the address consulted by HotNews.ro.
The problem is not only with RCA policyholders. They are doctors insured against negligence at Euroins.
Euroins currently has more than 1.6 million cars on the road insured by RCA, but the bankrupt company also sold other insurance such as malpractice insurance to doctors and pharmacists.
In a letter sent on August 4, the College of Physicians informs its members what they must do to be protected in the event of negligence and to be entitled to practice for free without being affected by the policy, which is no longer in force, although it is still in force. in the expiration date:
- 1. Take out a new civil liability policy for the period remaining until the policy expires with Societatea Euroins România Asigurare Reasigurare SA and present it to the Territorial Board of Doctors to issue you a new annual practice notice.
- 2. Draw up a new civil liability policy for a period of 1 year and submit it to the territorial medical college for issuing a new annual practice permit.
- 3. Send an application for the return of the premium to the Guarantee Fund: https://www.fgaromania.ro/formulare-fga/
The RCA price limit can be extended until January 2024. What are the reasons – sources
As well as extending the validity of Euroins insurance, the Financial Supervisory Authority (ASF) wants to propose to the Government to extend the RCA price cap for a further 3 months, until 10 January 2024.
The reason, multiple government and insurance industry sources told HotNews.ro on Tuesday, was that all policies of RCA Euroins, the bankrupt insurer, had lapsed.
