
According to a press release sent on Thursday, Romanian Television’s management has ordered the initiation of an internal audit procedure that will examine how Romanian Television Company (SRTv) has acquired all sports events over the past 9 years. TVR and quoted by News.ro.
This approach was initiated after several situations were reported in which representatives of the SRTv Sports Department, responsible for the negotiation and acquisition of television rights, allegedly refused to enter into contracts for some sports competitions proposed by the European Broadcasting Union (EBU) to later buy from private operators in Romania for much higher amounts than the initial ones.
In particular, an audit report conducted by the internal audit department found a number of problems with sports purchases made by the old management of SRTv’s sports department. Thus, the management of SRTv approved the beginning of control related to the progress of all processes, negotiations and conclusion/non-conclusion of contracts for the acquisition of sports rights, internal and external, from the period 2014 – 2023, state press release.
