There are municipalities where there are still 200-300 residents, and 20-30 work in the city hall, says Eugene Redulescu, former director of the Financial Stability Office of the BNR, who now holds a non-executive position in the same institution.

“Of course, the day will come when the number of settlements that Romania has will decrease. Here, I would see the possibility of optimizing some expenses so that over time this reduction of budget employees could take place due to territorial consolidation,” he said.

Redulescu clarified that now we are in the formula “since 1960 or something like that, with 41 counties, with I don’t know how many municipalities. We have municipalities that still have 3,000 inhabitants.”

“Personally, I would not like to find myself in the situation of carrying out restructuring operations there,” Eugene Redulescu also confirmed.
