Facebook launched the Threads network, which will be a serious competitor to Twitter, and Mark Zuckerberg said that more than 10 million people signed up in the first seven hours. What are the rules for streams? How much does it have in common with Twitter and why is it so “tied” to Instagram.
The program was launched on Thursday at 2:00 Romanian time and is available in more than 100 countries, but not yet in EU countries due to data protection rules.
Threads is created primarily by people on Instagram and is a “companion” of Instagram, closely related to the network in the Meta group. Given that Instagram has over two billion users, Threads is already starting from a very high base and will be a very large network even if only a tenth of Instagram users decide to join the new network.

You need an Instagram account to join Threads and the account name will be similar to your Instagram account. At launch, the app gives you the option to give Threads a subscription to the accounts you already follow on Instagram, or you can select just a subset of them.

People who follow your Instagram account won’t automatically follow you in streams, so you have to build your audience from scratch.
It’s a lot like what happens on Twitter because you can post text with photos and videos, you can reply to a post, or you can repost. The rules differ in that in Threads, a post can be a maximum of 500 characters, and posted videos can be a maximum of 5 minutes.
There are no ads at first, but most likely they will appear in the future as Meta wants to monetize all of its products.
In the first four hours, more than 5 million users registered, and after seven hours the threshold of 10 million was exceeded. Among the stars who signed up, Kim Kardashian and Jennifer Lopez, and among the famous American politicians, it is worth noting Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez. HBO and Netflix are among the brands that activated accounts within minutes of the launch.
The United States will be the main market for the new app, which is not surprising, especially since the United States is also the number one market for Twitter.
