Zoe Ceausescu’s wristwatch is up for auction on Tuesday, May 30, as part of the event dedicated to elegance – “Timeless”. The Jaeger LeCoutre watch in white gold is set with 58 diamonds weighing a total of 4.54 carats. The starting price of the collection worn by Zoe Ceausescu is 10,000 euros. The watch was confiscated during the December 1989 revolution as part of the confiscation of the Ceausescu family’s wealth, and then returned by the courts in 1997. At the time, the Ceausescu family was known to solicit major foreign brands to buy watches or jewelry, and the de Zoe watch was no exception. Along with the jeweled watch that belonged to the daughter of the Ceausescus, the auction will also feature other impressive items – exclusive, vintage or contemporary timepieces, luxury jewelry, limited edition bags, and collector cars.
More than 100 models of watches will be auctioned on May 30, which can be purchased at a starting price of only about 20-30% of the list price, that is, a quarter of the market price. A unique arrival on the Romanian market, but also very rare internationally, is the Romain Jerome Arraw Marine Mykonos watch, which has a starting price of €3,000, compared to a list price of €13,000. The model was produced in a limited edition of only 10 examples, and the watch in the auction is the first of the series (wearing the number 1 of 10). What makes this edition special is the sand from the famous Mykonos beach, which is prominently embedded in the bezel crystal. In addition, this edition was put up for sale only on the Greek island of Mykonos. Another special watch, also made from rare materials by renowned watchmaker Romain Gérôme, is the Moon DNA Skylab model, which starts at €4,000. Materials from the fuselage of the Apollo 11 spaceship, during which the first man landed, were used in the design of the watch.
The watch segment is led by the highest starting price of the Rolex Skydweller, Rolex’s most complicated model, with a starting price of €33,000, followed by the Audemars Piguet Offshore, which starts at €32,000. Both parts come with the original box, instruction manual, warranty card and certificate of authenticity.
“Timeless. Auction of collectible watches, jewelry and accessories, including a charity section” also presents the BMW New Class white collection, model 2000C, on the specialized market in Romania. This classic example was only distributed by BMW between 1962 and 1977, ensuring the company’s solvency after the financial crisis of the 1950s and cementing the identity of BMW cars as sports sedans. The auction item, with a starting price of €8,000, was deliberately conceived as a luxury version of the 1800 model, described by the famous profile magazine “Road & Track” as “the most efficient 2-liter sedan on the market today.” as well as the best handling and the best drive,” after a 1967 test drive.
As part of the event on May 30, there will also be a charity section dedicated to raising funds for children suffering from severe allergic diseases. Maestro Gheorghe Zamfir donated one of his concert flutes to support the charity cause. The starting price of the bamboo wood musical instrument with 22 tubes is only 150 euros and comes with a certificate of authenticity. Romanian watch designer Augustin Matei has donated a unique watch called “Tree of Life” with a hand-painted dial featuring the tree, the symbolism of which gave the watch its name, with a starting price of €1,000 at the auction. For charitable purposes, the work “Signs of Air” autographed by the artist Yulia Shiopa, whose starting price is 500 euros, as well as the work of the Ukrainian artist Yana Petrunina – “Peonies”, whose starting price is 300 euros, will also be auctioned. Funds collected from the sale of donated products will be directed to the Romanian Allergological Education Association and the Caring for Children Association. Both associations aim to lay the foundations of the project “Tasty and healthy on the hospital plate”, which will constructively intervene and help change the menu in pediatric hospitals, where children in general and children suffering from food and respiratory allergies, in particular, cannot feed, are more part of the time, according to needs and pathologies. Thus, the collected funds will allow to conduct technical cooking courses, consultations on dietetics and nutrition, equipping with special equipment, labeling dishes and changing the way of transporting portions of food in the salon. “Tasty and healthy in a hospital plate” is a pilot project that will be implemented in a pediatric hospital in Bucharest, which serves thousands of children every year. Works that are part of the charity section of the May 30 auction are marked with a red heart.
A work from the event “Timeless. Auction of watches, jewelery and collectibles, including a charity section’ valued at approximately €1 million and accompanied by proof of origin, a guarantee of authenticity or, as the case may be, a guarantee of proper functioning. The impressive creations can be seen and tried on for free until May 30 at the exhibition at Palatul Cesianu-Racoviță, which is open from Monday to Sunday from 10:00 to 20:00. The auction on May 30 will take place from 19:00 in the Palatul Cesianu-Racoviță hall, as well as online on the Artmark Live 2.0 platform.
