At 3%, inflation in April year on year, compared to 4.6% in the previous month and 10.2% in April 2022.

On a monthly basis, inflation rose by 0.6% compared to a 2.1% increase recorded in the corresponding comparison of the previous year.

Average inflation for the twelve months from May 2022 to April 2023 compared to the corresponding indicator for the twelve months from May 2021 to April 2022 showed an increase of 8.6% against an increase of 4.4% in the previous year.

Monthly price course

The increase in inflation by 0.6% in April compared to the corresponding indicator in March was mainly due to changes in the following groups of goods and services:

• 5.3% in the “Clothes and footwear” group, which is associated with the return of part of the prices to the levels before the winter sales.
• 0.5% in the Housing group, mainly due to rising prices for: heating oil, solid fuel. Part of this increase was offset by lower prices, mainly for: electricity, natural gas.
• 0.4% in the Durable Goods – Home Goods and Services group due to the return of prices to the pre-winter sale level. Some of this growth was offset by lower prices, mainly for household direct consumption goods.
• 0.9% in the Health group, mainly due to higher prices for medical, dental and paramedical services.
• 1.3% in the Leisure-Cultural activity group, mainly due to the increase in prices for durable goods for recreation and cultural purposes.
• 1.9% in the Hotels-Cafes-Restaurants group, mainly due to price growth in restaurants-pastry-cafés, hotels-motels-hotels.
• 0.2% in the “Other goods and services” group, mainly due to price increases in: hairdressing and personal care stores, auto insurance premiums. Some of this growth was offset by price cuts, mainly for other types of personal care products.

• 0.1% in the Food and Non-Alcoholic Beverages group, mainly due to lower prices for: cold cuts, fresh fish, dairy products and eggs, fresh vegetables. Part of this decline was offset by rising prices mainly for: bread and cereals, beef, olive oil, sugar-chocolate-candy-ice cream.
• 0.3% in the group Alcoholic beverages and tobacco products, mainly due to lower prices for alcoholic beverages (not served).
• 0.1% in the “Transport” group, mainly due to lower prices for: diesel fuel, air passenger tickets. Part of this decline was offset by higher prices, mainly for gasoline.

Price rate on an annualized basis

The increase in inflation by 3% in April 2023 compared to the corresponding month of 2022 was mainly due to changes in the following groups of goods and services:

• 11.4% in the group Food and non-alcoholic beverages, due to price increases mainly for: bread and cereals, meat (in general), fish (in general), dairy products and eggs, oils and fats, vegetables (in in general), sugar-chocolate-sweet ice-cream, other products, coffee-cocoa-tea, mineral water-soft drinks-fruit juices.
• 4.0% in the group Alcoholic beverages and tobacco products, mainly due to higher prices for alcoholic beverages (not served).
• 5.6% in the clothing and footwear group due to rising prices for clothing and footwear.
• 10.9% in the Durable Goods-Household goods and services group, due to rising prices mainly for: furniture and decorative items, household appliances and repairs, tableware and household utensils, household goods for direct consumption, household services.
• 6.5% in the Health group, mainly due to rising prices for: pharmaceuticals, medical products, medical, dental and paramedical services, inpatient treatment.
• 1.4% in the “Transport” group, mainly due to price growth for: new cars, used cars, mopeds-motorcycles, auto parts and accessories, maintenance and repair of personal vehicles, taxi tickets, airline tickets, passenger tickets ferries. Part of this increase was offset mainly by lower prices for fuels and lubricants.
• 3.7% in the Leisure-Cultural group, mainly due to rising prices for: consumer durables for leisure and culture, small leisure goods-flowers-pets, cinemas-theatres, stationery and design materials, travel packages .
• 2.2% in the Education group, mainly due to higher prices for: primary education fees, secondary education fees.
• 8.5% in the Hotels-Cafes-Restaurants group, mainly due to the increase in prices in restaurants-pastry-cafés, hotels-motels-hotels.
• 6.4% in the “Other goods and services” group, mainly due to price increases in: beauty salons and personal care stores, other personal care items, health insurance premiums, vehicle insurance premiums.

• 13.4% in the Housing group, mainly due to lower prices for: electricity, natural gas, heating oil. Part of this growth was offset by rising prices mainly for: rental housing, home repairs and maintenance, utilities, LPG, solid fuels.
• 1.8% in the Communications group, mainly due to lower prices for telephony services.
