An independent law firm will conduct an audit of Ringier Romania at the request of the company’s management in Romania following the case of Iulia Marin, a journalist from Libertatea who died at the age of just 32, writes Pagina de Media.
- “We have requested an internal audit, which will be conducted by an independent law firm, to demonstrate that we are committed to being transparent and accountable.
- The mandated audit will be conducted by independent lawyers who have experience in such cases. They will have full access to all relevant information and resources necessary to conduct an in-depth audit – while respecting the protection of personal data and journalistic sources,” the letter sent to employees said.
Regarding this audit, Paginademedia.ro contacted Mihnea Vasiliu, CEO of Ringier Romania, who said:
- “The audit is requested by myself and Katelyn Tolontan, not by Zurich, and is a step in the name of full transparency that we want to demonstrate in this case and in general.
- We hope that after the completion of the audit, we will put an end to the spread of absurdities that are currently circulating in the public space in connection with the tragic death of Yulia Marin.
- In addition, this independent document will help us take legal action against those who have unfairly attacked us.”
The approach by Ringier’s management in Romania comes after Victor Ciutacu told CNA that there is an email received from a Ringier International board member that proves Zurich bosses have launched an investigation.
On Thursday, the National Audiovisual Council fined a Romanian TV channel 100,000 lei, or 20,000 euros, for two shows made by Victor Ciutacu after the death of journalist Julia Marin, who was just 32 years old.
We remind you that on Romanian television, the death of journalist Yulia Marin in Viktor Chutaka’s show was qualified with phrases like: “These people are mentally ill, they made materials for the press”, “Miss Marin’s pen is a weapon. Which used dishonestly can destroy fortunes”, “Wrongly advertised as a media experiment” or “I would not allow a person with mental problems to work for me”.
In the article entitled “QED The official position of the Romanian television in the case of Julia Marin (journalist who committed suicide) and Catalin Tolontan – Libertatea (the editor-in-chief who familiarized herself with the labor law and the decision of Julia Marin’s doctor)” signed by Alina Kostake, in the article , posted on the online television platform, talks about the medical problems of the deceased journalist and blames the editorial office of Libertatea. along with Katalin Tolontan that he helped her “kill herself”.
The article, written in a very aggressive tone, in an informal form with repetition of punctuation marks and full of personal assessments, claims that “The scandal started by Tolontan and the editors of Libertatea!!! (we don’t think that all journalists there support Tolontan) had only one goal: to block the investigation of Viktor Chutaka, hiding the legal and moral responsibility of the editor-in-chief Katalin Tolontan.”
