As for the Russian Mercedes factory, the dealer said that he plans to choose a partner for his work in the near future.
“We are pleased to announce the completion of the agreement on the acquisition of the Russian assets of Mercedes-Benz. It was a long and difficult process of transferring foreign assets to a local investor. Now that the deal is closed, we are pleased to announce the speedy resumption of service for Mercedes-Benz cars in Russia and the activities of other companies,” said the press release of Avtodoma, distributed to the press.
Today, everyone is worried about what will happen to the plant. In the near future, we will be able to name our technology partner and share plans for resuming production. The most important factor for us is the preservation of jobs for employees,” he said.
Russia wants China’s help to resume production at the Mercedes plant
The press service of the Ministry of Industry and Trade in Moscow, in turn, noted that the Russian government, together with Avtodom, is looking for ways to attract partners to resume production of the Mercedes division.
At the end of March of this year, the Minister of Industry and Trade of Russia, Denis Manturov, said that he does not rule out the possibility of partnership with Chinese companies for the former Mercedes-Benz plant. In fact, since last year, Chinese car manufacturers have begun to close the gap left in Russia by the departure of major Western brands.
In the first quarter of 2023, Russians bought more Chinese cars than Lada, the most popular domestically produced car in Russia.
Mercedes-Benz announced at the end of October last year that it would sell its Russian business to a local company after suspending exports to the country under Vladimir Putin since March in protest against the invasion of Ukraine.
