Restaurants that previously operated under the McDonald’s brand in Belarus will be renamed Mak.by, the local company announced today, while retaining access to the recipes, Sky News reports.
McDonald’s restaurants in Belarus, all 25 of which were owned by local licensee KSB Victory Restaurants, were to be renamed “Delicious and Point”, the successor to McDonald’s restaurants in Russia, but the deal apparently fell through.
“Delicious & dot” declined to comment, and “KSB” and “McDonald’s” did not respond to questions.
In November, McDonald’s said its licensee could no longer continue operating in Belarus due to widespread problems with local supply.
“As a result, French will cease to operate as McDonald’s and will no longer carry the McDonald’s name and will no longer serve our menu,” McDonald’s said at the time.
The fast-food chain was one of the first Western brands to fully exit Russia, selling it to local investor Oleksandr Govor last May. (photo: Pavlo Sytsko | Dreamstime.com)
