In France, and not only, many write that the head of Stellantis, a group that includes such brands as Peugeot, Fiat, Opel and Citroen, has a salary of 23 million euros per year. Carlos Tavares is considered one of the best managers in the automotive industry, and there are voices that say he deserves the money.

Tavares’ profit for the past year exceeded three times that of the boss of Volkswagen and five times that of the boss of Renault.

The Stellantis group was created in January 2021 and is led by Carlos Tavares, a man who was important at Renault in the past and also visited Romania.

Tavares is one of the most powerful executives in the auto industry, especially as he heads a group with 300,000 employees and an annual production of 6 million vehicles. His thoughts on the future of electric cars, proposals on Euro-7 standards and electric fuel are often cited. His views on the danger posed to Europe by the penetration of Chinese brands were sharp.

On April 13, Stellantis’ general meeting will discuss Tavares’ remuneration for 2022. Some of the shareholders say it is scandalous that the head of the company receives such a high remuneration, more than 20 million euros for 2022, when an employee has an average of 60,000 euros a year.

The average annual salary of the heads of the largest companies listed on the Paris Stock Exchange is about 5 million euros. Critics say that five million is already a “royal” sum, those who defend Tavares say that the man is so effective and influential that he deserves a higher than average salary.

The debate “heated up” even more after one supporter wrote on social media that Tavares is the Kylian Mbappe of the car industry and France is very lucky to have him and must keep him at all costs.

From here, a discussion started in the network on the topic: is it normal to compare Tavares with a famous football player? Is Tavares more important in the “equipment” of Stellantis than MbappĂ© in PSG?
