The Romanian Chess Federation has announced that Grandmaster Liviu-Dieter Nicipeanu will once again represent Romania, a move formalized on Wednesday by FIDE.
Liviu-Dieter Nicipeanu will play for Romania again
“In 1999, Nisipeanu reached the semi-finals of the World Chess Championship held in Las Vegas, where he defeated the main favorites of the tournament Oleksiy Shirov and Vasyl Ivanchuk.
In 2005, he was the European Chess Champion and was also ranked 15th in the world at the time (with an ELO of 2707).
For 9 years (from 2014 to 2023), he represented Germany (without misunderstandings with the Romanian federation), and in 2017 he also became the champion of Germany.
Nisipeanu is the winner of the Târgu Mures Open, the second stage of the Romanian Grand Prix in 2022,” said the press release of FR Șah.
