“This is a great opportunity to take stock of everything we have achieved and also set goals for the next period, because, of course, our work never stops,” said the Prime Minister. Kyriakos Mitsotakisduring a meeting with their president Eurogroup and Irish Finance Minister Pascal Donahue, who is visiting our country to participate in a conference on the Greek economy called “Sustainability, Progress, Prospects”, organized by the Minister of Finance, Christos Staikouras.
Mr. Donahue congratulated Greece on its constructive participation in the Eurogroup, led by Finance Minister Christos Stykouras, and on the achievements of the Greek economy in recent years, supported by social cohesion.
“Thank you very much for taking the time to come and talk about what we have achieved together over the past years,” the Prime Minister said at the beginning of the meeting.
“I am honored to be here and I am really looking forward to the conference later so that I can celebrate the huge progress that has been made,” protested the President of the Eurogroup.
According to government sources, during the meeting, the stable economic performance of our country with high growth rates and low inflation was discussed, as well as an exchange of views on the economic situation in the eurozone and its prospects in the shadow of the crises caused by the pandemic and the war in Ukraine.
In fact, Kyriakos Mitsotakis stressed to Mr. Donaghiou that the continued implementation of sound fiscal policies by EU Member States must be combined with a renewed system of economic governance at the EU level. It is noted that Greece is actively participating in the relevant consultations and wishes to reach an agreement during 2023.
The current financial instability in the international system and the degree of impact on the European financial system were also discussed. Finally, there was a common understanding that progress towards the completion of the Banking Union and the deepening of the Capital Markets Union are necessary to achieve the objectives of the EU in terms of its international competitiveness, its open strategic autonomy, and its dual transition, green and digital.
