In the context of the recent tragic events in Turkey and Syria, as well as the earthquakes in Gorz County, UNSAR – National Union of Insurance and Reinsurance Companies of Romania once again emphasizes the importance of home insurance.

Although earthquake is one of the main risks identified by Romanians for their houses, at the national level only 20% of them are protected by mandatory PAD insurance. In Gorzh County, this percentage is even lower – only about 9% of houses were protected by such a policy. Compulsory PAD insurance covers three catastrophic risks: earthquakes, floods and landslides up to €10,000 or €20,000, depending on the type of building.

At the same time, only 17% of Romanian houses also benefit from optional insurance. They can be placed only on houses that are already protected by a mandatory insurance policy. With the help of additional insurance, the house can be protected at its actual value against many other risks, such as fire, explosion, damage to the water supply and sewage systems, etc. An additional insurance policy also covers any damages that the owners may cause to their neighbors.

“Recent events have reminded us how vulnerable we are, even if many times we think it can’t happen to us. It is for this reason that we should be concerned about everything related to the protection of our home as well as our loved ones,” said Alexandru Chunkan, President and CEO of UNSAR.
