  • “Since I bought the house, I pay every year, not only the mandatory insurance, which is somewhere 100 lei, but also optional insurance. We have had no events, this is my first property and we love this house, I don’t think we will change it.
  • I had optional insurance from the moment of purchase. Optional insurance is available 700-800 lei per year. 190 square meters is a built-up area, residential area is less than 132 square meters.” This was announced by Minister Cheke Attila on Wednesday.

What does the minister say about Romanians who complain that compulsory insurance would be a hidden tax and that it makes no sense in areas without earthquakes, floods or landslides?

  • “I like to insure. We’re not just talking about floods or landslides here. It could also be a fire spreading from another property. I mean, there can be a lot of things that I think it’s really good to insure our property for.
  • This insurance gives you the guarantee that when something happens, in Romanian, you won’t be stuck on the road, because if it’s your only property, you have to take care of it. This is an individual’s point of view, which I also assume as a minister,” he said.

Do you know of situations where people, although they were insured, did not receive compensation from insurance companies?

  • “I have not heard of such a case. Of course, the area where I live is not at risk of earthquakes. But I saw yesterday’s statement from experts related to the Gorzh earthquake, who said that this magnitude in the area was a surprise. That is, everything is not as we learned from the book. There are certain issues that may change over time.
  • This applies not only to seismic risk, but also to flood and fire. I recommend to those who have this opportunity to insure their home.
  • There is always a risk wherever you live, and as an individual I want to wear a seat belt,” said Ceke Attila.

ASF recently confirmed to HotNews.ro that he has received complaints from policyholders who live in areas without floods, landslides or earthquakes and claim that PAD insurance is a hidden fee.

In the case of Romanians with real estate loans, the bank also requires additional home insurance, so the mandatory PAD insurance against the three risks of natural disasters: earthquake, flood and landslides should also be done automatically.

Less than 20% of houses in Romania are insured by PAD. Most of them are apartments in cities

The latest figures from PAID (Pool de Asigurare Optoriva Desastrelor), a private insurance company that issues compulsory PAD home insurance policies and pays out compensation in the event of disasters, show that there were 1,850 active .373 PADs at the end of January this year. policies, which is 19.30% of the national housing stock.

The apartments are insured for more than 1.1 million PAD.
