The official Facebook page of the Ministry of Finance became the target of a cyber attack. The profile photo was changed to an image of two luxury cars. The ministry said that they are trying to “quickly correct” the situation.

UPDATE (13:01) DNSC told HotNews.ro that it offered support in restoring access to the compromised page and that the resolution of the case with the support of Meta is ongoing:

  • “The National Directorate of Cyber ​​Security (DNSC) received a message this morning from a user who noticed a change in the profile picture of the Ministry of Finance Facebook page. DNSC immediately contacted the ministry structure responsible for managing this social media page and provided support in the process of restoring access to the compromised page. At the moment, the procedure for restoring the Facebook page has been started, and the case is being investigated with the support of Meta.” This was stated by DNSC representatives for HotNews.ro.

4 hours ago, the profile photo on the Facebook page of the Ministry of Finance with a blue tick was changed by unknown people to a photo of two luxury cars, a Rolls Royce and a Mercedes Benz G Class Suv.

The cover photo has also been removed and the page description states that the facility is a personal blog.

The last post that appears on the page, which is followed by 42,000 people, is from December 20, 2022.

“Now we are experiencing problems with the official page of the Ministry of Finance on Facebook. We apologize for the inconvenience, we are making every effort to correct this situation as soon as possible,” the agency said.
