
​Ford will reduce the number of employees in Europe by 3,800, the reductions will take place mainly in the administrative sphere and in product development. Ford is investing $50 billion worldwide in electrification, which means some of its current plants will either close or go electric.
Ford says it needs to cut costs across the organization to transition to electric vehicles. The company has been making losses in Europe for many years.
The number of employees will be reduced by 2,300 in Germany, by 1,300 in Great Britain and by 200 at other enterprises in Europe. These cuts will be made over the next three years through voluntary departure programs.
The number of employees will decrease by 2,800 in product development and by 1,000 in administration.
Electric cars have fewer components, less work to build them, and therefore fewer workers overall.
