The opening of the first store in Greece is expected in October discount polish pepco chainwhich is expected to signal, on the one hand, the intensity of competition between cheap retailers, the main representative of which in Greece is Jumbo, and on the other hand, the beginning of a wider cooperation between the Trade Estates of the Fourlis Group and the Pepco Group. Pepco is active in the sale of children’s, women’s and men’s clothing, as well as interior items.
The first Pepco store in Greece will open in Piraeus Retail Park, in the commercial park Trade Estates, which is located at the intersection of Piraeus and Kifisou streets, on the border of the Moschatos, Rentis and Neo Faliros districts. To date, four stores of large commercial groups (AB Vassilopoulos, McDonald’s, Moustakas, LC Waikiki) are already operating, and by the end of 2022, six more stores of the latest brands of international and Greek companies operating in the broader sector of the so-called value retail (low cost retail). The operation of the first store of the Polish network owned by Trade Estates is the starting point for continuing cooperation between the two parties, always in the context of a commercial lease. As a reminder, the Fourlis group and its company Trade Estates AEEAP have launched plans to create commercial parks in Elliniko, as well as in Patras, Heraklion, Crete, Spata and Chalandri. In addition, a few months ago, Trade Estates acquired the Florida 1 shopping center in Thessaloniki, and in Larisa, where the IKEA area has decreased, other enterprises are to be located.
It is worth noting that the two cities in which Pepco is going to open stores in the near future are Larisa and Thessaloniki. At the beginning of the summer, the Polish chain was looking for staff for its store in Larisa, and now it is looking for staff for its store in Thessaloniki.
Pepco announced its entry into the Greek market in November 2021 and plans to open a total of twelve stores in Athens and other major cities in Greece. Although its stores are smaller than those of Jumbo, it is speculated that it could get a stake from the Greek group, especially in the current situation of inflationary pressures.
Greece is the 17th European market where Pepco operates. The chain currently operates its stores in Estonia in the north of Europe, in Italy in the south, in Spain in the west and in Bulgaria in the east, and in autumn 2021 it expanded its presence by successfully entering the Austrian market, with Germany becoming the next country. With the entry into Greece, the expansion of the entire Pepco group, which also operates discount retailers (Poundland in the UK, known as the “poor man’s supermarket” and also in Ireland, and Dealz in Spain and Poland), will reach a total of twenty activation markets. In total, Pepco has 2,921 stores in Europe and the group has 3,795 stores.
