The government has committed to compensate for 80% to 90% of the increase in electricity consumption in households and businesses. Especially in the month of September, we absorb 94% of the increase in electricity for households, Minister of Energy Kostas Skrekas stressed on Sundayportending support also for households with natural gas.

“The prime minister’s instruction is to consider scenarios for supporting households, because we cannot allow them to be unable to heat their homes in the dead of winter,” he said, in particular, in an interview with SKY.

When asked what form the intervention would take, he replied that “last year we supported households with assistance and an increase in the heating allowance, as well as by subsidizing natural gas bills.”

The Minister of Energy emphasized that as long as necessary, the explosive growth in energy prices for everyone and without income criteria will be supported.

When asked if there will be a cap on natural gas, he replied: “Little by little, our European partners are coming in and agreeing to the proposal of Mitsotakis, who previously proposed capping natural gas on international stock markets. On September 7, at the General Directorate of Energy, a representative of Greece will present the country’s position on limiting the price of natural gas and setting a ceiling.

However, he added that everything will be decided after consultations with financial personnel and taking into account the needs of the most vulnerable social groups.

Regarding the Device Change Program, Mr. Skrekas emphasized that out of 150,000 beneficiaries could reach 220,000 through the runners-up subsidy.
