Electricity providers have complied with – with one exception – the advertising of the new electricity tariffs, as stated in a statement from the Energy Regulatory Authority (RAE).

As noted by the RAE, “in the event that the tariffs that will be published on 08/20/2022 and related records are contrary to the provisions of the law and the general principles of transparency, comparability, and the prevention of unfair competition, the RAE will make the relevant cases public without any other wording.”

“After the entry into force of the emergency transitional provisions in the electricity supply market, the energy regulator announced that it had considered the formation of new electricity tariffs, the procedure for their registration on the websites of suppliers, as well as promotions in forms, on radio and television, on websites, as well as on social networks.

Accordingly, the RAE sought to align tariffs with the mainstream of the law (see clarity and predictability of energy costs), promote transparency, protect consumers from misleading reports and advertising, and reduce unfair competition. .

For these purposes, and as part of its oversight, the RAE has sent separate letters of recommendation to vendors and issued instructions. As a result of these actions, some of which have been made public, compliance by electricity suppliers with the provisions of the framework text regarding the accounting for the state subsidy has been achieved.

Revised records of new electricity tariffs are now displayed in a manner that reflects the government subsidy through the Energy Transition Fund and is consistent with the principles of transparency and comparability.

“Based on this, we believe that consumers have the right to make – given the difficult situation – the best choice regarding the choice of supplier and electricity tariff,” as noted.

In addition, RAE says that, while also seeking to maintain healthy competition in the retail market, in a new letter it is advising the electricity supplier to immediately reform its advertising strategy and avoid future unfair competition-distorting tactics. .

Finally, it is noted that the Authority will constantly monitor the activities of electricity suppliers. In addition, it adds that: “Given the extensive consultation during the first phase of the implementation of the new rules and the release of RAE guidelines and recommendations, it is believed that electricity suppliers now have the necessary experience to formulate their tariffs. and advertising entries according to the text box. Subsequently, in the event that the tariffs that will be published on 08/20/2022 and the corresponding records are contrary to the provisions of the law and the general principles of transparency, comparability, and the prevention of unfair competition, the RAE will proceed to publish the relevant cases without additional wording. Therefore, electricity suppliers are called upon to adequately respond to the obligations that they bear as part of their role, taking into account the critical conditions for all participants and especially consumers.”
