OUR Germany need to reduce consumption natural gas more than in any other member state of the European Union, to achieve the goal of saving 15% of the amount that has been purchased so far, the German agency estimates based on data from the European Commission.

Berlin will have to find a way to save 10 billion cubic meters of natural gas from the beginning of this month until March 2023 in order to meet Brussels’ target. This amount is equal to the annual average consumption of 5 million households of four people.

Due to high gas consumption, Europe’s largest economy has to save more than any other EU country, since it will have to save almost a quarter of everything that must be stored on the Old Continent.

President of the Confederation of German Industry (BDI) Siegfried Raschburm urged the government to speed up austerity measures and warned that companies trying to switch from gas to oil face obstacles and delays due to bureaucracy.

According to him, measures such as replacing gas-fired power plants with coal ones will be required.

“This is not the speed that Germany needs to manage the crisis,” said the head of the BDI.

“Germany is experiencing the biggest energy crisis since the founding of the Federal Republic. Businesses and consumers must do their part to save gas in order to prevent interruptions in production. It’s a matter of determination and speed,” he said.
