In January 2024, the Peugeot e-208 rose to the top spot among the best-selling electric cars in France with 2,178 registrations, slightly ahead of the Dacia Spring and the Tesla Model 3.
And it’s clear that Peugeot intends to capitalize on the good results of its electric city car, as after cutting prices a few weeks ago, the lion firm just increased them again.
However, the brand has recently made efforts to catch up with the competition, notably with its e-308, which has seen a slight price drop, while the e-3008 is offered in the same waters as the Renault Scénic or even a Tesla model. Yu.
A price increase that is difficult to understand
On the other hand, the Peugeot e-208 is still well above the rest, if anything more so than the upcoming Renault 5 E-Tech, promised for €25,000 before bonus, or the Citroën ë-C3, which starts at €23,300 , again earlier. bonus. Thus, the Sochal sitikar now begins with 34,100 euros to a bonus of 5,000 euros, compared to 33,550 euros previously, still without subsidy. As a result, the Peugeot e-208 turns out to be more expensive than the Renault Mégane E-Tech (from 34,000 euros), which, however, is from a higher segment. However, the city car has a larger battery – 51 kWh range is more than 400 kmwhile the cheapest Mégane has a 40kWh battery for a claimed range of 300km.
At the same time, the thermal version also has the right to its small increase, but more measured. In fact, its price has just increased by €150, going from €19,200 base price to 19350 euros. Again, it’s more expensive than the Renault Clio, which starts at €18,700.
Competition that will intensify for the Peugeot e-208
Remember that the Peugeot 208 recently got some minor changes, including a slightly modified style and some technological improvements. Nevertheless, it is starting to show the weight of years, the model was released in 2019.
Sochaux will in any case have a lot to do this year to retain the top spot among the best-selling electric cars, as the R5 E-Tech and Citroën ë-C3 should reshuffle the cards.
