The long-awaited social leasing, due to be announced before the end of the year, promises to be an initiative aimed at making access to electric cars easier for the most modest households in France.

Currently available information indicates that this program will target mainly the least well-off 50% of French households, with the basic taxable income does not exceed 14,000 euros.

On the other hand, we do not yet know all the contours of this indicator, but our colleagues at Les Echos indicate that certain criteria have already been excluded from the equation, in particular, in order not to complicate the indicator, which, in fact, is already a little.

No criteria other than taxable income?

Thus, according to Les Échos, certain criteria such as geographic location and type of occupation for frequent drivers have been postponed, even if Christophe Bechut’s office initially seemed to be in favor of including territorial criteria, particularly regarding low-emission mobility zones. (ZFE-m).

The government would choose a pragmatic approach based on the principle of “first come, first served”.. This decision is explained by the desire not to complicate the process by introducing criteria that can change. That is, the one who first submitted an application for a special platform will receive this social leasing.

A selection of electric cars is planned

A few weeks ago, Bruno Le Maire indicated that a list of electric vehicles suitable for social leasing would be released in the coming weeks, indicating in particular that this applies to the Citroën ë-C3 and other Fiat 500e.

This was announced by the Minister of Economy social leasing will not benefit Chinese carsincluding the Dacia Spring and the MG4, two cars that have had some success in France but are made in China.

The government plans to put 15,000 to 20,000 cars into circulation thanks to this social leasing. This figure looks quite modest, but the government will no doubt leave the option of reopening the floodgates mid-year if the system is truly successful.
