Unbelievable: this Peugeot 205 is completely autonomous! News from Auto Plus in your smartphone News from Auto Plus in your mailbox

Today, the driverless car continues to be talked about, and many manufacturers are very interested in it. Obviously, we’re thinking of Tesla, which already offers its Autopilot as well as FSD (Full Self-Driving). But other brands have also considered this issue, such as Volvo or even Nio, which already offer level 3 autonomous driving on some of their cars. This became possible, in particular, thanks to LiDAR sensors, which are able to map their environment with high accuracy. But this technology is still rare and, above all, very expensive, and seems out of reach for many drivers.

A big project

But now a group of young engineers have decided to make autonomous driving more accessible with a ready-to-install kit of their own development. The latter is currently still being developed and tested on the Peugeot 205. Developed in a garage and in-house by a small team of friends at Spinti Tech, this system includes several programs coded by the creators. There is a car equipped with LiDAR sensors on the roof and equipped with various modules to detect obstacles. The system is even able to distinguish a tree from a person and change the car’s behavior accordingly.

Many functions

Several modules are installed on the car to ensure autonomous driving in complete safety. The Decision module lets you tell the latter what to do and when, while the Vision module uses cameras to analyze the environment. In addition to LiDAR, 3D cameras were also installed, as well as sonars and radars. There is a car controlled via an Xbox controllerwhile the HMI module installed in the driver’s compartment enables the display of images from the cameras as well as the programming of messages visible on the panels at the front and rear of the vehicle.
