When a manufacturer launches into the world of electrics, it’s often through an SUV, whose body today is approved by roughly 50% of customers. This was the case a few years ago with Audi, which launched the e-tron to usher in the all-electric era, or even BMW with the iX3.
On the side of producers of luxury and prestige, the recipe is not necessarily the same. Ferrari has given no indication that the brand’s first electric model, introduced in 2025, will be an SUV.
Paradoxically, in Lotus, known for its light and sports cars, if the first electric car was the supercar Evija, the cost of which was about two million euros per piece, then the first “volumetric” model is the electric SUV Eletre.
The electrification revolution is coming to Lamborghini
As for Lamborghini, the first 100% electric car will arrive three years after Ferrari. If the bull company seemed to hesitate between a 2+2 coupe and an SUV, finally a coupe was chosen.
During the presentation of the Lamborghini Revuelto, this information was confirmed by the head of the brand Stefan Winkelmann: “It will be a new body style because there is no GT 2+2 in the range today and I think it will be a good addition to the two supercars and the SUV.”
This model will join Lamborghini’s already well-electrified lineup. Indeed, the Urus will switch to a battery hybrid in 2024, and the Huracan replacement will also be eligible for a hybrid system, as will the new Revuelto.
The electric SUV is really in boxes
In terms of style, the Revuelto hints at the path designers will take for the next few years. As such, we should find this Y-shaped light signature on most of the range, with lines that are always sculpted and crocheted.
The announced 2+2 electric coupe may also be inspired by the silhouette of the Lamborghini Estoque concept car, a model that was introduced at the 2008 Paris Motor Show but never actually had an offspring. Maybe it will be in 20 years.
After the presentation of this famous GT 2+2, which in spirit could have been inspired by the queen of the category, namely the Porsche 911, Lamborghini will present a second 100% electric model by 2030. And this time, it will be an SUV.
