THE Cougarit Iconic Ford model. The name launched in 1997 in the form of a small two-door coupe. It returned to the market in the form of a 2019 small SUV. He quickly knew how to find his audience. Despite its sporty lines reminiscent of the original coupe, it is based on the technology of the small Fiesta. With similar engines and chassis. It has been a real success since its launch than the alternative Ecosport, which did not appeal to European consumers. Thanks to his rural lines and its low cost (it was originally designed for developing countries). It is Ford’s bestseller in France and Europe. So the one through whom everything happened is removed from the directory : the mythical Fiesta is no more!

Diesel, gasoline, microhybrids, ethanol…

Puma offers a a number of engines operating at different energy levels : diesel, gasoline, microhybrid and ethanol ! On the diesel side, it is equipped with a 1.5 EcoBlue unit with a capacity of 120 horsepower, which is combined with a 6-speed manual transmission. For petrol engines, the three-cylinder 1.0 EcoBoost engines with 125 and 155 horsepower are equipped with 48V micro-hybridization and can be combined with a 6-speed manual transmission or a 7-speed automatic transmission. The 125-horsepower version doesn’t offer a hybrid system, but it does compatible with bioethanol. It is available only in manual transmission. Finally, three-cylinder 1.5 EcoBoost with a capacity of 200 horsepower reserved for the ST sport trim and is the most powerful engine in the assortment. This block is no longer the only one offered in the ST line. Now supported by the Puma ST “Powershift”!

New version of ST

Compared to ST, this Powershift version replaces the 1.5-liter unit with a 3-cylinder 1.0-liter 48V micro-hybrid. Thus, he is satisfied with a 170 horsepowerand a torque of 248 Nm. Acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h takes 7.4 seconds, which is 0.7 seconds faster than the ST version. The real novelty is its automatic transmission (with paddle shifters), not available on the ST, which is limited to a manual transmission.

This electrified unit allows a lower average consumption compared to ST: 6.3 l/100 km compared to 6.6 l/100 km. Ford has not yet released pricing. For comparison, Puma ST starts in France from 35,950 euros, Puma Titanium for 26,500 euros. This offer is amazing from Fordas the average consumption and grams of CO2 are lower though don’t spoil the pawns either compared to the ST version…
