Volvo never ceases to unfold new electrified models ! After the EX90 large SUV introduced recently, the brand prepares a small electric crossover for 2024! Volvo was one of the first manufacturers to assume its desire to only offer electric models by 2030. A goal that seems achievable given the manufacturer’s current lineup. This one is 100% electrified ! Indeed, all thermal models are offered in 48 V light hybridization. The XC40, XC60 and XC90 SUVs have a version plug-in hybrid, like the S60 and V60. better, the Swede already offers three electric models. Crossover XC40, sedan C40and the latest “small” EX90, a 100% electric equivalent of the large SUV XC90.
Electric revolution thanks to Geely
AND transition which will be the easier as Volvo belongs to the Chinese automobile concern Geely. Specializing in platforms and electrical technology, this one is the first Chinese manufacturer in the world! This is the same Geely that owns the brands Polar StarLotus and Lynk&Co, which is a shareholder of Smart. Volvo therefore benefits from this electrical know-how to accelerate its development and reach its goals by 2030. Eventually, its model range will consist only of models starting with the letter E (for electric ones, of course), following the trend started by the EX90. At the end of its presentation a month ago, the EX90 appeared behind next to another much smaller crossover. You could see the date in the dark: 2023 year. That’s why it can be Volvo’s future electric crossover!
EX90 reduced
This upcoming model, which seems to be already completed in the production version, should be presented next year! He will be based on the SEA Geely electric platform. This is already used for an electric crossover Smart #1, as well as various Lotus, Polestar and Zeekr models. It will be positioned below the XC40 the smallest Volvo model after the C30removed in 2013. On this occasion he could take the titleEX30or even EX20. This is an important model for Volvo that wants build your range from low to good volume. In fact, this is – with the exception of the C40 and XC40 – limited to SUVs, sedans and wagons in the upper segments. Entering the European market with a more suitable crossover would allow the manufacturer to defend its market share with the help of Geely. This new model should be presented in the second half of 2023 marketing in 2024.
