Iulia Rosu, one of the deputy editor-in-chiefs of the Libertatea newspaper, which was fired on Wednesday along with editorial director Catalin Tolontan and another deputy editor-in-chief Camelia Sten, says the reason given by the Ringier Management was that the position of “press coordinator” was overturned without argument regarding his performance, criteria or evaluation.

Of the three dismissed journalists from the management of Libertatea, only Yulia Roshu has reacted so far.

Cătălin Tolontan did not react, but published on his Facebook page an article published by the newspaper’s editors, which tells about the dismissal of the three journalists, saying that the dismissals will not stop there.

In a message posted on Facebook, Yulia Rosu says she joined Libertatea more than three years ago primarily because of the team there.

“Nothing about my work here, my results, grade or criteria”

  • “I believe that together we thought and worked on relevant, influential topics, did what we knew best, and learned a lot from many of them. Professional, but also personal. Now I’ve been kicked out (along with Katalin Tolontan and Camelia Sten, the press coordinator) because the “press coordinator” position has been eliminated, so I’ve been officially put on notice. Nothing about my work here, my results, grade or criteria.
  • Only about a sharp decrease in sales of the printed edition of Libertatea, respectively by 64% compared to 2018. But my position at Libertatea is not related to a printed newspaper. But this explanation together with the reorganization of the editorial office. Strangely enough, I had a good time all these years in this editorial office together with my colleagues, whom I still deeply consider to be among the best professionals of our press, honest journalists for whom the public interest comes first.
  • The year 2023 was extremely difficult for the editorial office of Libertatea, it was actually tragic in terms of losses. But the team went on, did their job every day, sometimes I don’t even know how we managed to stay healthy, but I’m glad we worked together.
  • PS The solutions of the Ringier group do not end there. The company said that another 20% of people will go home. After some “assessments”, the journalist wrote.

It will be recalled that the editorial director of the newspaper Libertatea Katalin Tolontan and the deputy editor-in-chief Yulia Rosu and Kamelia Sten announced on Wednesday the termination of cooperation with Ringier. The decision comes a month after Tolontan was removed from Gazeta Sporturilor.
