Even if the number of accidents registers a downward trend this year, the number of deaths is still very high: more than 1,050 people died from January to October 4 this year, Bogdan Despescu, MAY’s state secretary, said on Tuesday.

TOP-3 causes of road accidents: speed, indiscipline of pedestrians and cyclists

Bohdan Despescu also told what are the main causes of accidents in which the most people died.

  • “From the point of view of causes, the main cause of death is non-observance of the legal speed limit – 168 people have died since the beginning of the year.
  • In the second place – the lack of discipline of pedestrians – 108 people died, in the third place – the lack of discipline of cyclists – 92 people died.
  • Therefore, even if we have fewer accidents, we understand that it is a lot for Romania in the context in which we occupy a dishonorable place at the EU level, the first country in terms of the number of deaths compared to the population,” said Bohdan Despescu, State Secretary of the Ministry of Interior.

This was reported during the conference held on Tuesday in the Government by the Department of Sustainable Development and the EDIT Association on the topic of car safety education.
