Iga Sviatek, Coco Gauff and Jessica Pegula will not play in the Billie Jean King Cup
The women’s team competition will begin on November 7 (in Seville, Spain), just two days after the conclusion of the Tournament of Champions (in Cancun, Mexico).
Last year, Poland’s Iga Sviatek (2 WTA) also missed the final stage of the Billie Jean King Cup and criticized the forums governing tennis.
“I am disappointed that tennis’ governing bodies have not agreed on something as basic as the tournament calendar, giving us only one day to travel the world and get used to the time zone. Such a situation is not safe for our health and can cause injuries,” Svietek said in 2022.
Americans Coco Gauff (3 WTA) and Jessica Pegula (4 WTA) will play at the Tournament of Champions in singles and doubles.
Among the players who qualified for the Tournament of Champions, Olena Rybakina (5th WTA – Kazakhstan) and Marketa Vondrousova (8th WTA – Czech Republic) and Karolina Muhova (9th WTA – Czech Republic) are also planning to play in the Billie Jean King Cup.
Know:
- The Tournament of Champions features the eight best singles players and the best doubles teams of the year.
- Aryna Sabalenko (1st WTA – Belarus) and Ons Jaber (7th WTA – Tunisia) will not play at the Billie Jean King Cup, as the national teams of their countries did not make it to the final tournament.
