Ukrainian forces shot down three Russian Su-34 attack aircraft on Thursday, Air Force spokesman Yuriy Ignat confirmed to the Kyiv Independent.
The first Su-34 was shot down in the east of the country, the BBC reports.
The other two Su-34s were shot down around 9 a.m. local time near Avdiyivka and Maryinka, Air Force Commander Mykola Olestiuk said.
The Ukrainian army also said on Facebook on Tuesday evening that it had shot down two Russian Su-34 fighter-bombers and four reconnaissance drones, AFP reported.
The Su-34 is an advanced dual control bomber. It was designed to replace the Su-24 aircraft. This is an attack variant of the Su-27 aircraft.
According to the Air Force, Russia lost about 12 Su-34s in February alone. Each plane costs approximately $36 million.
Two Russian A-50 reconnaissance aircraft (AVAKS) were also shot down by Ukrainian forces in January and February, each costing about $330 million.
