The candidate for the capital city hall will be determined depending on the results of the polls conducted by PSD and PNL, but the most likely option is a joint candidate, Liberal President Nicolae Chuke said on Thursday in Piatra-Niamc, Agerpres reports.

When asked whether the topic of the Bucharest mayoral candidate will be discussed at the coalition meeting on Monday, Nicolae Cuke answered:

“We will not discuss this aspect until the results of the polls are available. Each of the two parties has decided to have candidates to measure the polls, and when we get those results, we will also discuss running a mayoral candidate. We agreed that depending on the confidence expressed by the citizens in the elections, we should choose the option of one party or the other, or, probably, to ensure our victory in the capital, to have a candidate who would be supported by both parties.” .

The President of PNL added that at the moment the method of appointing a candidate for the post of President of Romania has not been determined.

“It’s a different story that I didn’t understand,” Chuke said when asked if the nomination of a presidential candidate would follow the model of a candidate for the capital’s mayor’s office.

The leader of the NLP emphasized that topics related to the government act will be discussed at the coalition meeting on Monday.

“We have to get out of this phase where all attention – and it’s normal for it to be like this – is focused on how the first round of elections will be conducted, and then the calendar until December. At the same time, we have to take into account that we have a country that we are managing. In the coalition, issues related to management will be considered,” said the PNL president.

Nikolae Chuke participated on Thursday in a series of actions for the nomination of candidates for the positions of mayors in the municipalities of Piatra Neamts and Roman, as well as for the position of the president of the district council from PNL Neamts.
