Ukraine and its foreign partners may invite Russia to an upcoming peace summit to discuss ending Moscow’s two-year invasion “on Kyiv’s terms,” a senior Ukrainian official said on Sunday, Reuters reported.
In the coming months, a summit will be held in Switzerland to discuss the peace formula proposed by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyi, which could then be handed over to Russia during a second meeting later, said Andriy Yermak, Zelenskyi’s chief of staff.
“There may be such a situation that we invite representatives of the Russian Federation together, where we present them with a plan, if the one who will represent the aggressor country at that time really wants to end this war and return to a just peace,” Yermak said during teleconference in Kyiv.
Volodymyr Zelenskyi announced his peace formula for the first time at the G20 leaders’ summit in November 2022. It provides for the restoration of the territorial integrity of Ukraine and the complete withdrawal of Russian troops.
Kyiv insists that it will not communicate with Moscow until all Russian troops leave the territory of Ukraine.
Instead, the Kremlin said there was currently no basis for peace talks between Russia and Ukraine and that Kyiv’s peace plan was “absurd” because it excluded Russia.
