“We already have sanctions, but we are considering additional (sanctions), yes,” the Democratic president told reporters, who had already held Vladimir Putin “responsible” for Navalny’s death, announced Friday in a penitentiary in the Arctic region.

The United States and the European Union have already applied several rounds of sanctions against Moscow since the start of Russia’s war against Ukraine on February 24, 2022.

On Saturday night, President Biden told his Ukrainian counterpart, Volodymyr Zelenskyi, that he is “confident” in continuing US military aid to Kyiv, which is currently blocked by the House of Representatives in Congress.

The Democratic majority in the US Senate has approved a new $60 billion military aid package for Ukraine, aid that Kyiv is desperate for from the US and its Western allies.

But House Republican Majority Leader Mike Johnson refuses to vote for the bill.

Joe Biden: “It’s just shocking”

President Biden also said on Monday that he would “be happy” to talk to Johnson, whose position is influenced by former President Donald Trump, the clear favorite in the Republican primary with an eye on the presidential election in November.

Donald Trump also demands that Congress pass tougher immigration laws before providing any financial aid to Ukraine.

“The way they (Republicans) have turned their backs on the threat from Russia, the way they’ve turned their backs on NATO and our commitments, is just shocking,” President Biden said during the campaign to re-elect the US president.
