Ukrainian army chief Oleksandr Syrskyi said on Saturday that Kyiv troops had withdrawn from Avdiyivka to avoid encirclement after months of fierce Russian attacks, Moscow’s biggest offensive since its forces captured the city of Bakhmut last May.

“The defense forces of the Zaporizhzhia region defeated the Russian offensive yesterday,” the Ukrainian military reported in the Telegram messenger.

The army said 18 armored vehicles, including three tanks, were destroyed and the Russians “retired to their previous positions”.

There are currently no comments from Russia.

The Zaporozhye direction became the main center of the Ukrainian counteroffensive in the summer of 2023, but no significant progress was made, only a few settlements were liberated.
