Kharkiv Oblast Governor Oleg Synegubov said Russian forces struck the city on Friday night, hitting civilian infrastructure, causing several large fires and destroying at least 15 residential buildings in eastern Kharkiv.

“As a result of the strikes, seven people died, including three children: a seven-year-old, a four-year-old and a child about six months old,” he said on the Telegram messaging application.

Three people were injured, he added.

Firefighters and rescue workers worked through the night to deal with the aftermath of the attack, putting out fires and clearing debris, local officials said.

Kharkiv has come under regular attacks since the start of the Russian invasion of Ukraine in February 2022, and has been the target of frequent Russian attacks in recent weeks.

In Kharkiv, the head of the local prosecutor’s office, Oleksandr Filchakov, said in a video posted on Telegram that three drones had shot down a gas station in the city’s Nemyshlian district.

“There was a large amount of fuel, which is why the consequences of the fire were so terrible,” said Filchakov.

The Russians also attacked Ukrainian ports on the Danube with drones, where loud explosions were heard, and Ro-Alert messages were sent in Tulcea and Galati counties.

Ukraine’s air force said its air defense groups and mobile search drones shot down 23 of the 31 drones launched by Russia, which were aimed at the Kharkiv region in the country’s northeast and Odesa region in the south.
