On Saturday evening, the Ministry of Emergency Situations of Russia reported that the number of people killed as a result of shelling by Ukrainians of a bakery in the occupied city of Lysychansk (in the east of the country) increased to five. Earlier, the Russian news agencies TASS and RIA Novosti reported on the two dead.

“The bodies of the dead have been found,” the Russian agency reported on Telegram, adding that rescue operations were ongoing and that six people had been pulled alive from under the rubble.

Leonid Pasechinyk, an official of the Russian-appointed occupation authority, said on Telegram that “dozens of people could be under the rubble” and accused Ukrainian forces of deliberately targeting the bakery.

Ria Novosibirsk published videos of the bombed-out building, which show rescuers pulling out a destroyed car from the rubble.

Lisychansk, in Luhansk Oblast, fell to Russian forces after fierce fighting at the start of the Russian offensive in February 2022.
