According to Russian sources, Kyiv troops advanced on the left bank of the Dnieper in the Kherson region in southern Ukraine, the Institute for the Study of War reported on Thursday.
Ukrainian forces continued ground attacks on the eastern (left) bank of Kherson region on Wednesday and reportedly advanced, according to Russian sources.
Russian bloggers claimed that Ukrainian troops advanced southwest of Krynyk (30 km northeast of the city of Kherson and 2 km from the Dnipro River) and established a bridgehead in a nearby forest.
Russian sources also reported that fighting continues near Krynyk, and Russian air and artillery units are shelling the area. The General Staff of Ukraine reported that Kyiv forces are holding positions on the eastern bank of the Nirpa River.
Russian correspondents stated that Ukrainian forces continue to transfer new assault groups to the left bank, and 300-400 Ukrainian troops are stationed near Krynk.
According to ISW, Russian troops are trying to hinder Ukraine’s efforts to supply and strengthen its positions on the eastern shore of the Kherson region.
On the other hand, Moscow’s inability to create a coherent command structure among the forces defending the eastern (left) bank of the Kherson region continues to deteriorate Russia’s morale and fighting capacity, the ISV also states.
The General Staff of Ukraine reported on Wednesday that units of the 810th separate separate brigade of marine infantry of the Black Sea Fleet of the Russian Federation, operating near Krynyk (30 km northeast of Kherson and 2 km from the Dnipro), are refusing to carry out attacks. on Ukrainian positions due to the lack of artillery coordination, tactical intelligence and adequate communication regarding the location of Russian minefields.
The General Staff of Ukraine reported that Russian maps of minefields were classified, and Russian commanders did not coordinate with assault units the location of these minefields, which led to 50 casualties among the 810th Marine Brigade over the past month.
The incident on the minefield suggests that the Russian command responsible for the defense of the eastern bank is unable to coordinate actions, ISW notes.
Marines arrived in the Krynok area in early October 2023 and reportedly took over responsibility for the area from the 18th Combined Arms Army following the start of Ukrainian ground operations on the east bank of the Dnieper in mid-October 2023.
In October, Ukrainian troops crossed the Dnipro and created a bridgehead on the left bank of the Dnipro. Now the Kyiv troops are fighting for the expansion of this bridgehead.
Ukrainian drone operators are targeting Russian air defense and radio navigation equipment along the river in hopes of advancing further in this difficult area.
Both Ukrainian and Russian troops continue fighting in the Kherson region, despite adverse weather conditions.
